The new Volvo V50 was launched in 2003 and was refreshed in 2008 to bring it in line with the rest of the Volvo car range. The V50 car is based on the S40 chassis and is essentially the estate version of it, with the 'V' standing for 'Versatile'. The V50 features the same 'floating' centre console as other new Volvo vehicles which really gives this vehicle a unique and stylish interior. As with all Volvo's, this is one of the safest cars in its class and has numerous safety features as well as optional safety features such as the blind spot information system. The handling is sharp and purposeful and with the turbo charged T5 engine, provides a sporty drive with competitive acceleration.
Engine options are the same as the S40 saloon, petrol versions are the 1.6, 1.8, 2.0 and five-cylinder turbo charged T5. The turbo diesel options consist of the 1.6D, 2.0D and powerful D5 engine. There is also the economical 1.6D DRIVe engine with outstanding fuel efficiency and emissions as well as the bioethanol ready 1.8F Flexifuel.
As with the S40 vehicle, the trim options are the S, SE, SE Lux and the R-Design which features a sporty new bodykit with boot spoiler and sports interior.
