The new Volvo XC90 was launched in 2002 to great acclaim, winning several awards and has become Volvo's best-selling model. In 2007 the XC90 was refreshed with a restyled front and rear and revised interior. The XC90 has the best performance for any SUV or Sports Utility Vehicle in roll-over tests thanks to numerous Volvo technologies including a roof reinforced with high strength steel and stability control designed to minimize the risk of the car rolling. The XC90 has a 5-Star Euro NCAP rating.
The interior of the XC90 car is exceptionally well designed, incredibly spacious, with seven individually adjustable seats, the middle row of seats can fold flat to allow up to 1837 litres of storage.
Engine options, the only diesel engine is the turbo diesel D5 with 400 Nm of torque. Petrol options are the 3.2 litre and the 4.4 litre V8. The V8, designed specifically for the XC90 develops 315 PS and 440 Nm torque and still manages a respectable 20 MPG. Transmission options are the six-speed manual or the six-speed Geartronic automatic.
Vehicle Trim levels are varied, from the base level S, there is then the SE, SE Lux, the top spec Executive and the limited edition Volvo Ocean Race.
For 2009 the XC90 will receive a modified D5 engine with lower emissions and lower tax bracket as well as the new R-Design variant which features modified sport exterior, sports seats and interior as well as tuned chassis, sports suspension and 19 inch alloy wheels as standard.
